What is a WIF document?
A WIF file is a pattern file saved in the Weaving Interchange Format (WIF) and used by WeaveIt software. It contains a draft pattern of a weave which consists of cells that can be used to mark positions and fill with color. WeaveIt programs allows you to design drafts of weaves.
What is a weaving profile draft?
With a profile draft, a little scrap of paper could hold the design (profile) of a textile. It’s like drafting in shorthand! In a nutshell, the colored-in squares on a profile draft (as you can see at right) represent groups (blocks) of warp and weft threads that interlace in the same way to weave pattern.
How do you beat weaving?
Each time a weaver throws a line (or ‘pick’) of weft, they need to push that weft into place to make a clean and even grid. This is called beating the weft. On a multi-shaft loom, you beat by swinging the beater bar towards you. On a rigid heddle loom, you use the rigid heddle reed to beat the weft.

What’s missing is controls to give the weaver design flexibility, such as being able to select multiple treadles at once, or being able to start in the drawdown with a picture, given a set threading. The palette needs to be more user flexible rather than having preset colors.
