What are the grades of air filters?

The three air filter rating systems differ in ranges and were created by separate organizations. MERV ratings extend from 1 to 16. MPR measures ratings based on sizes 0.3 to 1 microns. FPR ratings are on a scale from 4 through 10….You may choose from three different options:

  • MERV 8.
  • MERV 11.
  • MERV 13.

What are the types of Ahu filters?

4 Types of HVAC Filters

  • HEPA Filter. HEPA filters offer the highest level of protection against a variety of airborne particles.
  • Reusable Air Filters. Reusable are filters are washable filters that can simply be cleaned up and used again.
  • Flat-Paneled Fiberglass Filters.
  • Pleated Media Filter.

What is a G4 grade filter?

A coarse G4 filter is designed to capture pollen, fog and coarse dust particles (≥10μm). It also captures leaves, insects, textile fibres, sand, ash, mist and hair. 0.4μm and larger particles include mould & plant spores, pet dander, textile dust, skin flakes, yeast cells, insecticide dust and most bacteria.

What do the numbers mean on air filters?

Filter efficiency and performance is often indicated by the filters’ minimum efficiency reporting value, or MERV rating. Standard MERV values range from 1 to 16, with the number serving as an indicator of how well the filter will remove material from the air. Higher MERV numbers indicate better filtration.

How do I know my MERV rating?

MERV ratings range from 1 to 20, with lower ratings denoting a lower-quality filter.

  1. MERV 1-4 Filters: Filters with a MERV rating of 1 to 4 do little to trap harmful particles in your home’s air.
  2. MERV 5-8 Filters: MERV ratings of 5 to 8 indicate a medium-quality filter that’s sufficient for most homes.

Is MERV 16 too restrictive?

Filters within a MERV rating of 17-20 are almost never necessary in a residential home. A MERV rating of 13-16 is considered hospital level air quality, so it is unlikely your home needs any more than that.

What is the MERV scale?

MERV stands for Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value. MERV ratings are on a scale of one to 20 depending on the minimum size of the particles a filter can be expected to capture: A filter with a MERV rating of one to four captures particles greater than 10 micrometers.

What is M6 filter?

M6 is for high efficiency filtration in heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. As prefilters for high efficiency absolute filters. The M6 bag is designed to ensure long life between maintenance intervals and achieve a high level of cleanliness in offices, shopping centres, factories, etc.

What is an F7 filter?

These high-efficiency multi-pocket Bag Filters F7 and F8 are designed to remove very fine dust particles from the air including soot, pollens, mould spores and bacteria. They are ideal for use in hotels, museums, art galleries, theatres, pharmaceutical and food manufacturing plants, computer rooms plus hospitals.

What is a good MERV rating?

Using an air filter with a MERV rating of about 5 to 8 is appropriate for most residential homes. MERV 5 – MERV 8 filters provide good filtration and will remove most pollen, mold spores, and dust mites. Generally, pleated filters have a higher MERV rating, while non-pleated filters have a lower one.
