In some instances, you may be able to correct Grade 1 inverted nipples nonsurgically using the Phillips AVENT Niplette. The Niplette uses gentle suction to pull the nipple out into a small thimble-like device. After wearing the device daily for several weeks, your nipples will remain projected outward.

Is the niplette permanent?

If the Avent Niplette has been worn as directed and the desired results have not been obtained by three months, then permanent correction may not be possible. It is not designed to be worn longer than three months. It may be used from time to time to keep the results if your nipple has a tendency to retract again.

How long should you wear niplette?

The Nipplette should be worn daily, eventually for at least 8 hours per day 7 days a week and success is usually within weeks. If at the end of the treatment the nipple starts to retract, the device can be worn for a little longer.

How do you get inverted nipples to come out?

Nipple eversion devices. Your doctor may suggest pulling the nipple outward with a syringe or suction cup device. Hard plastic breast shells worn inside your bra put pressure around the nipple, forcing it forward.

Does Niplette work on grade 1?

If you have got Grade 1 or 2 inverted nipples I think it’s sensible to try the Niplette suction device but if it does not work and you don’t tolerate it well I would recommend that you consider surgery to permanently correct your nipple inversion.”

Why do Inverted nipples happen?

Nipple inversion can occur in both males and females and often affects both sides instead of just one. It is caused by tight connective tissue or other problems with the ductal system connected to the nipple. Although many people have inverted or retracted nipples since birth, they can also occur late in life.

Is Niplette safe to use?

There is no harm in your daughter trying out a Niplette as a teenager. It works quite gently and will not cause any damage to her nipples in the long term. It is probably better for her to start off gently as excessive suction can cause pressure in this region.

Can you sleep with niplette on?

Important Advice on Using the Niplette One Niplette is required for each inverted nipple. It is possible to wear the device overnight provided you do not sleep on your front and it may be convenient to wear a loose fitting bra. The Shells will also help keep in place while sleeping.

Can you BREASTfeed with grade 3 Inverted nipples?

With Grade 1 and 2 inverted nipples you may be able to breastfeed. However, with Grade 3 nipples it will be highly unlikely you will be able to breastfeed. With the stretching technique, your milk ducts will still be in tact so you will most likely be able to breastfeed.

Do inverted nipples still get erect?

If the nipple retracts, or becomes concave, it is considered to be inverted. It should be noted, too, that true inverted or flat nipples will not become erect when stimulated or exposed to cold. If the nipple becomes erect during the “pinch” test, it is not truly inverted and does not need any special treatment.

Can inverted nipples breastfeed?

Inverted nipples fold inward instead of pointing out. Most women with inverted nipples will still be able to breastfeed. If the baby is having a hard time latching on to the breast, ask your doctor, midwife, or lactation consultant for help.
